President Obama
November 5, 2008 by Matt.
You know, I have been wrong before, and I hope that I am wrong this time too. But, I really worry about what the next few years could hold for our country. I think with the results of yesterdays election it becomes even more important that THE CHURCH BE THE CHURCH. My statements here may be unpopular, but I don’t really care. I think that Obama has made it very clear that his values are not inline with those of the Church. As such, we must step up so that the light of God can shine in our country.
In truth, the president probably won’t have much impact on the day to day life of the average American. However, I worry about the direction that President Obama may steer our country. I worry not about where we will be in 6 months, but rather where we will be in 6 years. Obama was all about change; but what change? Change in and of itself is neither good nor bad. In fact change can be a great thing. I think that abolishing slavery was a wonderful change in our country. However, I think that removing bibles from schools has had a vastly negative impact on our country.
Now, all that being said; Barack Obama is a politician, and a good one. As such he cares more about doing what is popular then what he thinks is right. As such, we can still have an impact on Washington. If the Church would be the Church, then we can change what is popular and thus guide this country in a better direction.
At the end of the day, maybe that has been the answer all along. Maybe we have gone about this all wrong. Perhaps it is less important who is in office, and more who is in the pews. Perhaps it matters less what the members of Congress do, and more what the members of the Church do. Perhaps the Church has spent too many years sitting in the pews hoping that the government would make the right choices and blaming them when we think they fail too. I think it is time that the church start being the church again.
